When you listen to a song you like, what do you feel? Pain? Sorrow? Happiness? Anger? Excitement? Is it something that catches you? Lifts your heart and stretches your mind?
I ask this because I recently found myself questioning the way I work. I revolve myself around music. Many different styles, artists, generations, harmonies and all the masterpeices that exist. My heros consits of Ray Charles, Taylor Hicks, Pink, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kid Rock and Modest Mouse. My latest interest lies in the Jazz sound, especially the New Orleans Jazz. A mix of blues, gospel, jazz and a little bit of rock. It's amazing. It's become something I crave.
I love to hear it live. The sound created as it goes. The band making the rythym and counting to the beat. Beautiful.
I've never really seen the live Jazz, until just last night. A buddy of mine has a Jazz band called Jettison. They were playing last night at the Benson Grind, a coffee shop in Northern Omaha. After the first half hour or so, people started coming in. I watched the people as they would walk by, stare into the window, and then come inside with a look of curiosity. And they would stay for most of the show. The place got pretty packed up, and we all jammed the whole night. Clapping, singing, and some even dancing along.
It was great to finally see some good live music, something that gets me stoked and dying to get up on the stage myself. The band rocked. They played funk, soul, smooth jazz, and all of it I could feel. All of the guys did their part, and all of them could pull it out. It was smooth, real smooth.
I get to jam with Jason this week, and hopefully we can crank some things out. And I can finally see/feel what it's like to make music.

I think that's fantastic. Kenzie, since you like jazz so much, I think you should go to New Orleans on your honeymoon. You would love it!!
I wanna go to New Orleans this weekend! They have the jazz fest going on, with hundred of differents shows. New Orleans, for me, would be great, anytime though :)
